SOON LEE-EASYWAY A left it till late to defeat Teamz 97-87 to emerge as the champions of the Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) Alumni Association Under-23 Basketball Tournament last night at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

Soon Lee-Easyway A, represented by a cast of national scheme players, had Lim Liang Wei score a game-high of 33 points while 6ft 6in Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin and Soon Kian Leong added 17 and 14 points respectively.

Foo Gwen Tong poured in 30 points to lead Teamz while Hung Jiunn Nan and Wong Ha Siong scored 19 and 11 points to the losing effort.

Soon Lee-Easyway A got off to a quick start by employing a man-to-man pressure defence to deny their opponents any easy looks at the basket.

They were getting their points in the paint but gave away too many fouls in the process.

Teamz took advantage of this to score from the charity stripe to take a 25-21 lead heading into the second quarter.

Teamz had the quick hands to pick up steals to spark six unanswered points in the opening minute of the second period from fastbreaks. Read More…
