THE SKS Stingers started out their campaign with a bang with a 73-53 victory over Mochi/Each a Cup (MEAC) last night in Group A of the Village Mutual Aid Association Basketball Open Tournament 2012 at the Kampung Baru basketball court in Seria.
Rhajnee Sinco had a good offensive showing with a game-high of 35 points to pace the Stingers. The duo of national cagers, Ben Sim and Md Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin, each contributed 10 points in the win.
Esmond Tan paced MEAC with a team-high of 23 points in the loss.
The game was as expected close with the top two teams of the competition going head-to-head right after the opening ceremony.
The Stingers went right with man-to-man defence especially since they had a deeper bench.
The game remained close through three quarters and the defensive strategy finally paid dividends at the end of the third period where the scoreboard read 46-40 in favour of the Stingers.
