Sultan's Cup
THE Ilonggo Stingers overcame a sluggish start to get their campaign off to winning ways with a 78-58 victory over Team Wayne last night in Group B of the 2010 Belait Sultan's Cup at the Kampung Baru basketball court in Batu Bersurat. The Stingers' latest addition to the squad, Don Mordeno, put up a good shooting performance for 22 points to topscore for the team.
Ronald Arabia and Rio Oblido each contributed 10 points in the victory.
On the other hand, Geve Leones had a game-high of 26 points for Team Wayne while Majomar Aying poured in 22 points to a losing cause.
Both teams started badly but Team Wayne were quick to adapt to the game. The Stingers looked lost on several possessions and seemed out of shape coming into the game.
Team Wayne exploited the weakness with fastbreak points to open up a 21-13 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Stingers came out a different side in the second period, opening with an 11-0 run to grab the lead at 24-21 after four minutes from their opponents. Read More...
