IT went exactly as scripted.
Defending champions Bukit Ladang cruised to the final of the Brunei Open Basketball Championship 2011 with a 106-77 thrashing of Seria Hawks in the semi-finals last night at the Kampung Baru basketball court in Seria.
They will face Black Cobra, who edged Batangas Double Blades 76-72 in the other semi-final, in the championship match.
Bukit Ladang came out storming cruising to a 32-20 lead heading into the second quarter.
However, Seria Hawks fought back strongly in the second period to close to within 46-42 at halftime.
The defending champions then picked up the slack and applied full court pressure defence that resulted in transition points. They outscored their opponents 32-17 in the third stanza and Seria Hawks were in no position to mount a comeback with the core of the roster plagued with foul trouble.
"We came out playing full court pressure defence that turned the game around in the third quarter. Our opponents crumbled under pressure and they committed turnovers which we converted into points on the break," said Esmond Tan, the captain of Bukit Ladang, in an interview with The Brunei Times, after the win.
