R.I.P. - You’ll be remembered Wayne!
(click photo to enlarge)
I don’t know him personally but I’ve heard stories about him from my friends. He lost his fight to Leukemia on April 22 this year. He’s a great guy according to the people who knows him, he has a lot of friends everywhere.
If I remember correctly there were at least 3 basketball teams formed to commemorate him. In the 2009 Pepsi Cup, Team Wayne A and Team Wayne B participated. Team Wayne B entered quarterfinals. In the Fitness Zone Charity tourney both A and B joined. Team Wayne A placed 3rd. In Tutong’s GHK Men’s (6+6) tournament, Team Wayne and Team Wayne B listed as well, now Team Wayne in the semis. Players were mixed around going into different tournaments. Sorry I don’t have the photos of the other teams but you can still send to us at info@bruneibasketball.com.
A letter from my friend which he got it from a person who wanted to remain anonymous;
‘’This team is named Team Wayne in fond remembrance of a very dear family and friend, Wayne Kek Wen Hin, well-known for his unsurpassed generosity and kindness, who passed on earlier this year on 22nd April 2009 after having had fought courageously against acute myelomonocytic leukemia.
With his easy-going nature and rare true-friend personality, it comes as no surprise that there are a total of 3 Team Waynes in this year's basketball tournaments with considerable numbers wanting to play in memory of Wayne Kek. Such is the love and respect for Wayne Kek that shines through in each teams' desires.’’
There’s a Facebook group page created in memory of him, here and here.
