JOEL VINLUAN's uncontested layup with eight seconds left in the game secured a 70-68 upset win for Dermaline Beauty Therapy (Dermalogica) over tournament favourites Suci in Group A of the 4th Manjaro Cup last night at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.
The match was tied at 68-68 after Joel Valdez split his freethrows with 22 seconds left in the game.
Suci tried to reply but a turnover at the other end resulted in Vinluan scoring easily.
Aries Castro did try his luck on a long range trey in the ensuing possession but was off the mark to see Suci fall to their first defeat in three matches.
The results also meant that Dermalogica are secured a spot in the second round.
A clash between two unbeaten teams in the group saw Dermalogica play balanced offence with five players hitting double figures.
Vinluan hit the game-high of 15 points for Dermalogica and MV Dela Pena and Nino Martinez contributed 14 and 13 points respectively. Arnold Patricio and Valdez chipped in 11 and 10 respectively in the victory.
