WAN SING defied the odds with a good defensive performance to defeat tournament favourites Suci 89-72 in the final to be crowned champions of the 4th Manjaro Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat last night.
Four players hit double figures for Wan Sing with Danny Felicilda leading the way with 22 points and Marjomar Aying pouring in 17 points. Allan Caringal and Noel Grafil each chipped in 11 points in the victory.
On the other hand, Aries Castro scored a game-high of 24 points for Suci and Geve Leones added 19 points in a losing effort.
Wan Sing got off to a better start with Suci suffering from turnovers trying to get the ball into the paint.
Wan Sing would go on to score in transition and eventually open up a 22-16 lead heading into the second quarter.
It was the same story in the second period, but Wan Sing would soon be plagued by poor shooting from the outside and a 7-0 personal run by Leones would pull Suci to within 27-26 midway through the quarter.
It was a physical matchup and it was Wan Sing winning the battle of the boards that allowed them to stay on top 39-35 at halftime. Read More…
