Sunday, May 15, 2011
SEVEN teams will be lacing up for the Men's Open of the Aewon Cup 2011 basketball tournament at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat starting today.
Ledoux Potissene/ Sia N Tang Music, Auto Experts, Yun Lee Motor W/S, Lian Fu Restaurant, Brunei United Ballers, LeApple Bakery and Chevrolet Cruz will all try to assert their dominance as they fight it out for top honours in the competition that is tasked to help select cagers to represent the Sultanate at the upcoming Borneo City Cup in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, in July.
The tournament was initially scheduled for April but had to be postponed to allow the all-Filipino 4th Manjaro Cup who crowned its champions yesterday to be completed at the same venue.
The competition is set to run daily and played in a round-robin format with only the top four teams advancing into the semi-finals on May 27.
The final is slated for May 28.
For the Women's Open, only three teams Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Belait will slug it out.
Lian Fu Restaurant will take on Yun Lee Motor W/S in the curtain raiser today at 7pm.
The matchup between Ledoux Potissene/ Sia N Tang Music, who boast a handful of national cagers, and Auto Experts will begin at 8.30pm right after the opening ceremony.
