THE national veteran basketball team are off to Macau to compete at the 50th Macau International Chinese Invitational Basketball Tournament 2011.
Organised by the China-Macau Basketball Association, the competition will be played over two days startng today at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion.
The tournament is held to build friendly relationships among international Chinese from overseas. Apart from Brunei, teams vying for top honours include the United States, China, Malaysia, China and hosts Macau.
Brunei, playing under the banner of Fitness Zone, will only be competing in the 50-year-old and over category despite the competition also having a 60-year-old and above category due to the lack of players.
The national cagers didn't get much practice in preparations for the tournament but managed to get some good sparring by competing in Aewon Cup 2011 last month playing under LeApple Bakery.
When asked about what their aims are for this year's tournament, Captain Khoo Eng Chong replied: "We are hoping to build stronger relationships with players from other countries."
The other members of the team include Goh Kim Tian, Ho Poh San, Soon Chin Long, Chua Teck Chee, Goh Kok Ann, Albert Chu Fook Kun, Lim Siong Hin, Ong Tze Keu, Tan Soon Choh and Ken Khoo. The squad will be managed by Goh Kiat Chun, who is more popularly known as Wu Chun.
The national team will face off against the Macau Veteran team today followed by Guangdong of China tomorrow.
