SCB bank first win but NBT drive into the second round

NATIONAL cager Cavan Kong produced a 36-point performance to lift Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) to a 62-54 victory over NBT in Group E of the Inter-Company Basketball Tournament last night at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.
However, it was NBT who had the last laugh as SCB needed at least a 13-point winning margin to make it to the next round.
Besides Kong, Paul Wong was the only other player to hit double figures for SCB with 15 points.
Armando Estoesta and Romeo each had 13 points to pace NBT in the loss.
NBT got off to a slow start and had plenty of difficulty knocking down their shots. In contrast, Kong got into rhythm early for nine first quarter points to put SCB ahead 21-12 heading into the second period.
It was a different affair in the second quarter with NBT switching to a box-one defence on Kong.
NBT held SCB to only nine points in the period to cut their deficit to just 30-29 at halftime. Read More…
