Brunei cagers get invite to Asean League

THE organiser of the Asean Basketball League has extended their invitation to Brunei Basketball Association to participate in the event which is scheduled to kick off in September in Kuala Lumpur.
The invitation to the league was revealed by Romeo Adducul, the centre for Philippine Basketball Association’s Purefood team who was in town for a short visit.
Adducul who was the MVP in the Purefood team that won the Rimula Brunei Cup in 2002 said: “I received news from the organiser that they wanted to invite a Brunei team to participate in the inaugural Asean Basketball League.”
“I hope that Brunei would accept the invitation so that the team could gain the much needed experience and exposure playing against top players in the region.”
Measuring 6′5, Adducul was also in the Philippines squad that won the gold medal in the 1999 SEA Games hosted by Brunei Darussalam.
He said compared with the Philippines, Brunei’s basketball development needs to start from the young. More tournaments are needed and basketball development programmes in schools are essential of grooming good basketball players.”
Ask if height is a factor in basketball, he said with determination and passion even though you are a small guy, you can still achieve great height.”
On the cancellation of the Brunei Cup this year, the 33-year-old cager said: “It’s sad that the tournament had to be cancelled because of H1N1. I hope the tournament will be hosted next year and my team Purefoods will be invited to participate.”
