KATOK SIXTH FORM CENTRE (PTE Katok) refuse to be tagged as favourites heading into today's 2009 MD Cup final against Laksamana College of Business (LCB) at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) court in Batu Bersurat.
Unbeaten throughout the two-week long competition which started on June 30, PTE Katok beat Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College (SOASC) 65-48 in Sunday's semi-final to book their berth in the championship match.
LCB edged the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (MSPSBS) 59-53 to reach the final.
Having lost to them once, PTE Katok coach said that LCB would be prepared for his team in the final.
"It could go both ways, I really don't think we're the favourites," said Maxim Yap in a telephone interview yesterday.
"We beat them in the previous round (62-46) but I know they will have learnt from that loss and will be ready for us.
"It was a neck-and-neck game against them the last time, but they let go towards the end," said Yap, adding that he was sure LCB would not be giving up so easily in the final.
Yap said that he would stick to the strategy used during their first match against LCB though he did not elaborate and that he had instructed his players to focus more on defence during today's game.
An ankle sprain to one of the team's main players might affect their performance, said Yap, adding that LCB had a very good centre, who is sure to make life under the boards difficult for PTE Katok. Read More...
