PTE Katok basketball team came back from a double-digit deficit to defeat Laksamana College 75-61 in the final to emerge as the champion in the U19 Brunei-Muara District Basketball tournament yesterday at the Batu Bersurat Basketball Court.
Point guard Jon Lee of PTE Katok, on fire during the match up, scored 29 points, including 16 points in the decisive fourth quarter.
However, PTE Katok started off on the wrong footing when they trailed Laksamana College by 9-18 in the first quarter following a number of costly turnovers.
The game then started to tilt in favour of the faster PTE Katok team in the second quarter following consecutive points pumped in by Jon Lee and No 15 Liang. Both men dumped 14 points in 10 minutes to cut Laksamana College's lead.
Going into the interval, Laksamana led 28-16.
After the break, PTE Katok started to move up the tempo with a full court press and fast break offense. The strategy worked perfectly against the short-handed Laksamana Team, which only had one substitute player.
Exhausted and in foul trouble, Laksamana College's lead was turned into a deficit by PTE Katok. No 6 Nic managed to hit six crucial, consecutive points to help take PTE Katok into the lead for the first time.
At the end of the third quarter, it was PTE Kotak leading 41-39. Read More...
