KATOK SIXTH FORM CENTRE (PTE Katok) demolished Maktab Duli (MD) 'A' 67-47 to keep their unbeaten slate and marched into the semi-finals of the 2009 MD Cup yesterday at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.
National player Soon Jian Liang, who scored 15 points, dominated the low post for PTE Katok, who raced to a 15-2 lead halfway through the first period before returning to their dugout with a 35-16 advantage.
Nicholas Wee Chyuan Seng finished with 18 points for PTE Katok, who posted their biggest lead at 60-31.
Joven Umali had a game high 25 points as MD 'A' held a 12-2 rally to cut the deficit to 62-43.
"Towards the end, we were losing on rebounds but then I'm glad to see the team moving around better in the zone area. They have really shown improvement eventhough our shooting was a bit off today," said PTE Katok head coach Maxim Yap.
Yap, when asked on what he thinks about meeting, SOASC replied, "This is a very highly anticipated match for us. We have to learn on how to break their full court press but we just have to defend well by covering the lanes just like how we did on our meeting with LCB."
In other game, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College (SOASC) pulled off a 71-67 victory over MD 'B.'
Both teams played well in the first half which ended with MD 'B' leading 34-31. Read More...
