Superio plots Dragons' thrilling win
Saturday, July 14, 2012
VINCENT Superio played the role of the hero last night.
The guard made the game-winning freethrow to lift the SGTB Dragons to a 69-68 victory over Cengkih Restaurant and Catering in Group C of the Sultan's Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.
Cengkih faced a deficit as large as 15 points in the third quarter and played much of the match at the backfoot. They had a golden opportunity to steal the win with ball possession and the scores tied at 68-68 with 37 seconds to go in regulation.
Coming off a timeout, the inbounds pass got to Ahmad Termizi Nordeen but good ball pressure saw Superio strip the ball. Racing down the floor he almost made it a three-point play just to see his shot rim off.
He missed the first from the charity stripe but made no mistake with the second attempt to put his team in front.
However, there was plenty of time left for Cengkih to seal the deal with 30s left on clock. They managed to get three attempts at the basket but to no avail.
When the Dragons finally got possession, Cengkih were desperately trying to foul to stop the clock but were not in the penalty yet. When they finally were, they sent Denver Esteban to the line with one second left. Read More…
