THE Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) cagers are confident of retaining their title in the UBD Cup which kicks off tomorrow at the UBD Sports Complex in Tungku Link. The tournament namesakes have much reason to feel positive after capturing the title two years in a row.
Although they have little time to prepare for this year's campaign, they have a better rostercompared to last year.
"We only had training for the past two weeks and we know it's going to be difficult. But I believe we have a good chance of retaining the title," said Yap Chun Ping, the captain of the UBD team, in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.
"We've one of the best squads this year. We've got more big men on the team adding height for some post up plays and still be able to go on fastbreaks. They will be the ones to help cover ground on defence too," added Yap.
"We're confident and we want to make it three in a row," continued the 24-year-old, who is a member of the national team.
When asked on who the main threats are to their title ambitions, Yap replied: " PTE Katok (Katok Sixth Form Centre) 'A' because they are a complete squad and also ITB (Institut Teknologi Brunei) as this is the team that can really hurt their opponents with their fastbreaks."
A total of 16 teams to be divided into four groups are competing in the tournament. Besides UBD, Group A include Maktab Duli (MD) 'A', Sayyidina Ali Secondary School (SMSA) 'B' and Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College (SOAS). Read More...
