Brunei basketball team win gold at Borneo Cup
THE wait is finally over. All the hard work has paid off for the national cagers, who were crowned champions of the 13th Borneo City Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament 2011 yesterday.
Brunei defeated hosts Kota Kinabalu 61-41 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, to clinch arguably their biggest victory ever.
It took the national side 13 years to lift the challenge trophy having already made history by beating Borneo giants Miri 69-54 in their first game on Thursday and triumphing 76-47 over Labuan on Friday at the Aug 4-6 event.
Miri, the 10-time winners of the tournament, finished second while Kota Kinabalu took third place. Labuan finished last in the four-team tournament.
Muhd Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin was the biggest factor in Brunei's win yesterday finishing with a double-double, having poured in a game-high of 19 points and hauled down 17 boards.
The duo of Esmond Tan and Ben Sim picked up their third consecutive double-doubles in as many games as well. Read More…
