THE Katok Sixth Form Centre (PTE Katok) may have only opened its doors in January but that has not stopped it from assembling arguably the best school basketball team in the country.
How did PTE Katok manage to do that in such a short time?
Maxim Yap, the PTE Katok coach, revealed his winning formula to The Brunei Times yesterday telling how he put together a team that won the Under-19 MD Cup in July.
"It was easy to start a team (at PTE Katok) since I have four of my youth players Jamri (Ramlee), (Soon) Kian Leong, (Chen) Wee Nien and Jon Lee there. All I needed to do was find support players," said Yap, who is also the head of department (HoD) of chemistry at PTE Katok.
Yap added that Jamri and Soon helped him select those players while Lee was a big help during practice as he knew the basic training drills.
Chen, meanwhile, has plenty of experience having represented Bandar Seri Begawan's Chung Hwa Middle School before joining the centre.
Being a new school, Yap said the team did not even have proper facilities when they started training. Read More…
