They won the crown last year after a last ditched effort by point guard Choo Yung Jian that saw them edge D'Babes/Sharks 71-69 in the final.

It will be back-to-back tests for the national team after they relinquished their crown at the 14th Borneo City Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament in Labuan last weekend.

National basketball coach Kevin Reece will be pleased to have a full squad this time around after missing the services of key player Esmond Tan in Labuan.

He together with Ben Sim will spearhead Easyway. They will be joined once again by Choo, Benjamin Lim and Muhd Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin as the starting five of the team. Read More…

They lost their crown to Kota Kinabalu in the 14th Borneo City Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament in Labuan last weekend.

The result was almost determined after they lost to eventual champions 65-59 in the first game last Friday.

The national cagers kept their hopes alive by bouncing back with a 62-59 victory over 10-time winners Miri in the second game before defeating hosts Labuan 69-60 in their last game.

KK were thrashed 92-55 by Miri in a non-bearing game resulting in matching 2-1 win-loss records for the former and Brunei.

The championship was won by KK as the winners were determined by head-to-head records.

"It is a disappointment for all us but there are some good and bad points that can be taken out from the competition," said Kevin Reece, the national basketball coach, in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday. Read More…

Results: 2012 Borneo Cup

Brunei Darussalam Men's Basketball Team has won Silver at the 2012 Borneo Cities Cup after:

- losing to Kota Kinabalu (65-59) in the first match
- defeating Miri (62-59) in the second match
- defeating Labuan (69-60) in the final match

But because the Labuan Amateur Basketball Association used a head-to-head format instead of the point difference system, the gold medal was awarded to Kota Kinabalu as even though they lost to Miri 92-55 in the final match and earned a 2-1 ranking similar to Brunei, the fact that they defeated Brunei earlier gave them the edge in the medal standings.

Once again, congratulations to the Men's team for a great performance and we all know who are the true champions anyway!
