Ex-Barracudas bite back

IT is ironic that Brunei's first "professional" basketball team should label their former local cagers who quit en masse on Monday as "unprofessional" when the team themselves did not even give the players any contract.
"We didn't sign any contract from the start (of the 2010) so by rights we can leave the team," the four local players Esmond Tan, Benjamin Lim, Hj Md Badri Hj Suhaili and Lim Aik Hock said in a statement yesterday.
Tan, Benjamin, Hj Md Badri and Aik Hock, who were with the Barracudas from the start of the Asean Basketball League in 2009, told The Brunei Times on Wednesday that they quit the team after they were encouraged to do so and to provide opportunities to other local players who could help the team to make the playoffs this season.
However, Nadzaty Azma Azeez, the owner of the Barracudas, has branded the four as "a disappointment to the country" on Wednesday and later branded them as "unprofessional". Read More…
