Goh sizzles with 24 points as Strong Eagles win in OT

IN A battle between two unbeaten teams, Strong Eagles came out strong last night by pulling off an 84-79 overtime win over Autoexperts.com.bn in the Group A match of of the Open Category in the Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) Alumni Association 18th Anniversary Basketball tournament at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.
After the game was tied at 73-73 in regulation, Goh Kheng Yih from Autoexperts contested the referee's call sternly, which resulted to his exit after picking up his fifth foul earlier, during the intermission. However, he was given a technical foul that would result in Strong Eagles starting the extra period with two free throws.
Goh Boon Tiong would knock down both from the charity stripe, thus, giving his team the edge in the five-minute period.
Autoexperts came back to life and hit five straight points before Goh scored the next five as Strong Eagles regained the upperhand at 80-79.
Autoexperts were desperate to cut into the deficit but Strong Eagles captain Liu Kun Shyong put the game to bed by scoring on the next two possessions that allowed them to top their group.
"We went out there to win. Our defence was not as good in the first half but we managed to adjust in the second half to play better. I thought that our opponents played well as well," said Xavier Fong, the starting centre of Strong Eagles, after the game. Read More…
