Gutsy Wildcats rip Muara United apart

Picture: BT/Jason Thomas WISDOM Jade Daycare Wildcats ripped Muara United apart in the second half to clinch the 2012 Manjaro Basketball Tournament with a 94-65 win on Saturday night.

Though the teams were even on 15-15 after the first quarter, Muara ran out of gas as the Wildcats shifted gears to take a 37-28 lead heading into the break at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

There was no looking back once the Wildcats opened a 10-point gap early in the third quarter with organised defence, and they enjoyed a 66-48 cushion as they entered the final stanza which really, was a mere formality.

Ganny Felicida led all scorers with 22 points and his Wildcats' teammate Geve Leones whose gutsy display lived up to his team's name powered his way to 18 points.

Don Mordeno was Muara's best scorer with 19 points but he was plagued with foul trouble and sat out most of the second and fourth quarter. Read More…

Leones scored 19 points to power the Wisdom Jade Daycare Wildcats to a win over Oragon, booking a berth in the Manjaro Basketball Tournament 2012 final against Muara United today.Picture: BT file WISDOM Jade Daycare Wildcats defeated Oragon 89-72 in their semi-finals match up of the Manjaro Basketball Tournament 2012 last Thursday to set up a championship showdown with Muara United at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat today.

The backcourt duo of Geve Leones and Nel Acobar proved to be too much of a task for their opponents, scoring 19 points and 17 points respectively to power the Wildcats to the win.

The first quarter saw the Wildcats jump out to a quick start scoring 24 points.

Oragon were not far behind, recording a respectable 18 points themselves in the stanza.

The aggressive Leones was a constant threat throughout the second quarter as he helped his team score 27 points in the quarter to lead 51-35 going into the second half.

But everytime the Wildcats opened up a lead, Oragon would respond.

The game became a seesaw affair with the two teams furiously exchanging baskets throughout the third and final quarter. Read More…

Muara United dash Hope in semis

image MUARA UNITED are through to the championship round of the Manjaro Basketball Tournament 2012 after holding on to a 74-64 victory over Hope in the semi-finals last night at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

The result of the other semi-finals between Wisdom Jade Daycare Wildcats and Oragon was not known as of press time.

Renante Cansanay was the biggest factor, coming up with a game-high of 22 points to pace Muara United while Baltazar also had a good game with 17 points. Don Mordeno also got into double figures with 11 points in the win.

Mark Porlahe topscored for Hope with 18 points while the duo of Ferdinand Lucida and Allan Caringal contributed 11 and 10 points respectively in the loss.

Both teams got off to relative slow starts. Hope were unfortunate missing their shots early on despite getting good looks.

Muara United were also struggling on the offensive end that saw them trail 13-14 going into the second period. Read More…

PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts hold on for the win

PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts suffered a late scare but edged SGTB 65-56 in Group B of the Manjaro Basketball Tournament 2012 last night at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

With nothing left to play but bragging rights, national cager Muhd Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin had a game-high of 24 points pace PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts.

Jamri Ramlee also had a good game finishing with 13 points in the win.

On the other hand, SGTB only had seven players in the matchup since both teams failed to progress to the next round.

Aries Castro did the bulk of the scoring with 22 points to his name while Remgel Espinas added 11 in a losing effort.

PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts came out storming. They were relying on good defence and utilising their height advantage to open up a 20-9 lead going into the second quarter.

Baltazar, Muara United edge out PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts

NATIONAL cager Zainul Asyhraf scored a game high 23 points but it was not enough to prevent PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts from falling to their second defeat in just as many games at the Manjaro Basketball Tournament 2012 last night.

Muara United did just enough to edge out PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts 56-53 in their Group B match at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat.

Baltazar carried the scoring load for Muara United with 22 points, while Escudero added 10 of his own in the victory.

PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts started out the better team, scoring the first two baskets of the night to lead 4-0 inside the two-minute mark.

Poor consecutive offensive possessions, however, saw Muara United claw back to lead 15-14 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter started in similar fashion with PHMD Publishing-Qintar Gifts once again grabbing the early lead.

But consecutive three pointers in the quarter would see Muara United end the half with a two-point 37-35 lead. Read More…
