A DEEPER bench propelled Hope to a 79-55 victory over MDA in Group A of the 37 years old and below category for the 2010 Filipino Amateur Basketball (FAB) tournament last night at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) court in Batu Bersurat.

Jeff Paraiso had a game-high 27 points to lead Hope while Allan Caringal and Jolito Entapan each chipped in 12 points each.

On the other hand, Reggie Malinao topscored for MDA with 22 points and Denverwin Esteban contributed 12 points in a losing effort.

It was an evenly contested opening period with both teams coming out aggressive and attacking the painted area for points. Malianao, who stands at 6-foot-3, was doing all the work for MDA by collecting the rebounds and scoring from underneath the rim. However, Hope were ahead 15-14 heading into the second quarter.

It was a similar scenario in the second period but MDA went cold on offence as they failed to make their shots. They were dominating the boards but failed to capitalise on second chance opportunities.

Hope, on the other hand, picked up at the defensive end to outscore their opponents 14-5 for the period which saw them open up a 29-19 advantage at halftime.

Hope came out storming after the interval with a full court pressure defence allowing them to go on a 9-0 run in the opening minute. MDA had no answer to their opponents' watertight defence which resulted in them committing turnovers and gifting Hope with fastbreak points.

Hope had extended their lead to 44-25 midway through the period and could even rest their starters for their bench to get playing time. The rest of the quarter remained one way traffic as MDA relied on low percentage shots which allowed Hope to stay ahead 58-40 going into the final stanza.

There was no change in the fourth period with Hope playing defence and coming up with numerous steals. MDA were clearly exhausted in the period as they were limited to only six players most of the game which saw Hope cruise to victory. Read More...
