CHANGING the face of Brunei Basketball is what national basketball coach Kevin Reece aims to do as he started his national development programme a fortnight ago at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) court in Batu Bersurat.

"It's coming along good and the players realise that there is plenty of work ahead. They are coming around to understanding the nature of the programme and they realise the need to be fully dedicated in making it a successful one," said Reece, in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday when met.

"I've seen some good things and players have been positive. They work hard even if they were to pick up injuries. However, there are some who will need to step up and be aware of what they are doing," added the California native.

"The talent pool is pretty evenly matched and all are starting at the same line at the moment," continued Reece, who is better known as Coach K.

Having been appointed at the position in late December, the national coach feels that there is plenty of work to be done starting from the basic fundamentals.

"The basic fundamentals of the players all need improvement at this point. If we work hard and keep focus, we should be able to meet the area of development needed," said Reece.

"Like passing, lay-ups, defence and footwork - are all still lacking at all levels including the national players. This is going to be a challenge for them," added the LA Lakers fan.
