GHK A STRONG second quarter by GHK helped them emerge champions of the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Men's (6 + 6) basketball tournament last night beating Team Wayne 76-54 in the final at the Chung Hwa Middle School basketball court in Tutong.

Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin poured in 22 points for GHK and Elwin Chong contributed 14 points.

On the other hand, Tan Ye Wei scored a game high 33 points to lead Team Wayne.

"It went really well for me. I did better than expected. I had to restrict my movement due to a sprain ankle yesterday (Monday)," said Zainul on his winning performance. Read More…

TEAM WAYNE left it till late to close their semi-final match 80-65 against Chung Hwa A to book a berth in the final of the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Mens (6 + 6) basketball tournament at the Chung Hwa Middle School basketball court in Tutong last night.

The victory earned Team Wayne a final date with GHK today.

Tan Ye Wei led Team Wayne with 30 points and Kerwyn Wong poured in 18 points.

On the other hand, Yap Chun Ping contributed a game high 33 points while David Choo and Ang Lu Kwang each chipped in 12 points for a losing cause.

Team Wayne came out playing defence in the first period making life difficult for Chung Hwa A on offence. This allowed them to establish an early 22-11 lead going into the second quarter. Read More…

CHUNG HWA A square off with Team Wayne in the first of two semi-final matches of the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Men's (6 + 6) basketball tournament tonight at the Chung Hwa Middle School basketball court in Tutong.

Chung Hwa, bannered by national players Yap Chun Ping and Wong Kim Guan, go up against Team Wayne at 6.45pm.

Yap is a prolific scorer while Wong is a force to reckon with under the paint.

Chung Hwa, comprised of players from Tutong District, also have young and energetic talents who can pull off surprises.

But Team Wayne have a solid lineup led by national player Tan Ye Wei, who is expected to deliver on the defensive end.

Team Wayne's under-21 player, Tan Kah Boon can also be a big help to the team's bid to reach the championship round with his inside shooting ability and rebounding skills. Read More…

SOON LEE left it till late to notch up their second straight victory last night waking up late in the game to beat Team Wayne 3 81-54 in Group A of the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) trophy Men's (6 + 6) basketball tournament at the Chung Hwa Middle School basketball court in Tutong.

Ho Boon Siang led Soon Lee with 17 points and Thian Lee Choy poured in 14 points. For Team Wayne 3, Peng Sei Chean contributed 12 points and Cheong Si Wei scored 11 points.

Soon Lee, made up mostly of players from the Belait District, had Team Wayne 3 on their heels throughout the whole game until the fourth quarter when they shifted gears to outscore their opponents 24-9 and seal the victory.

"I thought we played very good tonight (Monday night). We started the game with the younger players as we are trying to match and blend in our players as this is the first time we got the team together," said Ong Ming, captain of Soon Lee.

Soon Lee started out the better of the two teams as Team Wayne 3 were disorganised with their passing making numerous turnovers. Read More…

click photo to enlarge TEAM WAYNE 3 opened up their title campaign on a high note last night with a 66-52 victory over Charity C in the Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Mens (6 + 6) basketball tournament at the Chung Hwa Middle School basketball court in Tutong.

Banking on the hot hands of Liew Chee Hau and Peng Sei Chean, Team Wayne 3 clawed back from a 32-29 halftime deficit to post the win that gave them a share of Group A lead with Charity A, who won over Soon Lee 72-63 last Monday.

Liew topscored with 20 points while Peng contributed 14 points for Team Wayne 3 while Wong Jun Yew led Charity C with a game high 21 points.

The first quarter was close but Wong waxed hot and led a rally that gave Charity C a two-point advantage going into the second quarter at 16-14.

No Charity for Soon Lee

CHARITY A got their Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Trophy Men's (6+6) basketball tournament campaign off to a winning start with a 72-63 result over Soon Lee in the first match of the competition last night.
The second match of the night saw KOF ease past KMH 95-84.

Contested at the Chung Hwa School basketball court in Tutong, the tournament organised by the Tutong Amateur Basketball Association is being held in conjunction with His Majesty's 63rd Birthday celebrations.

Today's action will see Team Wayne 3 take on Charity C in the first match at 6.45pm while tournament namesakes GHK face Charity B in the second match at 8pm.

A total of 12 men's teams have registered for the tournament.

Group A is made up of Charity A, Charity C, Soon Lee, Team Wayne 3, Baiduri Bank and Chung Hwa A while Group B comprises KOF, KMH, GHK, Charity B, Chung Hwa B and Team Wayne. Read More…
