Picture: BT/ Melvin JH IT was a struggle to the end for both teams as Haska barely held off a late charge by Auto Experts to cling on to a 85-78 victory in their second round match of the Under-18 Chung Hwa Middle School Alumni Association 18th Anniversary Basketball tournament.

The match, contested at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat, sparked a duel of backcourt players with Jong How Kiat leading the charge for Haska with 21 points. Fellow guard Chua Shi Xuan contributed 18 points while big men Nicholas Wijayakusuma Horas and Leong Ming Xing added 12 and 16 respectively.

Auto Experts guard Jonathan Lee scored a game high 27 points while fellow running-mate Brandon James Numbiar wreaked havoc from the three point territory to pour in 23 points, all in the first half, to the losing cause.

Auto Experts struggled to utilise their size advantage early on in the match. Their errant passes, when trying to feed their big men the ball in the paint, ended up in the hands of the Haska players which allowed them to build up a 10-3 lead just minutes into the first half.

Auto Experts would respond by clamping down on the defensive end, throwing Haska off their offensive rhythm while starting to make shots of their own to grab a 17-18 point lead with approximately seven minutes played in the first half. Read More…
