IMD reign as DST lost in Communications BASKETBALL

Picture: BT/ Yee Chun Leong ISTANA Maintenance Department (IMD) handed DST Communications their first loss of the Inter-Company NBT Basketball Tournament with a 73-65 victory in Group B of the second round at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat last night.

Aries Castro had a game-high of 24 points to pace IMD. Centre Elvin Requintin also had a good game pouring in 20 points while Buboy Yu chipped in 11 points in the victory.

On the other hand, Tan Ye Wei topscored for DST with 23 points while the duo of Justin Yong and Tony Bong each contributed 15 points in a losing effort.

Both teams defended well at the start and were not letting in any easy baskets. DST opened up a five-point gap early on, but their opponents would regroup and a three-point buzzer beater by Requintin cut the deficit to 15-14 going into the second quarter.

IMD started the second period strongly and went on an 8-0 run. DST were also made to dig deeper after their starting point guard was sent to the showers early for picking up his second technical foul with over six minutes to play before the half.

DST were held to no field goals before Bong connected on a reverse layup with six minutes left. They would score the next two baskets to see the team deadlocked at 22-22 midway through the stanza.

IMD replied with nine unanswered points by scoring on the break, but DST regrouped to score the last five points to make it 31-27 at halftime.

Both teams were equally matched and were trading baskets after the break. IMD were leading 48-43 with two minutes left in the third before they applied man-to-man pressure defence.

It sparked a 12-4 run with Requintin hitting another buzzer beating trey to put his team up 58-47 going into the final quarter. Read More…
