Basketball: Selangan bow out in style

SELANGAN ended their campaign on a high note with an 88-54 thrashing of SOON in Group A of the Under-23 category of the Basketball Youth Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat last night.

Willie Jong topscored for Selangan with 20 points and Cavan Kong contributed 19 points.

On the other hand, Paul John led SOON with a game-high 22 points while Raj Kumar Limbu chipped in 13 to a losing cause.

Both teams started out sluggishly as neither could find any rhythm on offence.

Selangan were rushing their shots and couldn't capitalise despite dominating the boards for second chance opportunities.

However, they picked up their pace midway through the period and began scoring on fastbreaks leaving SOON behind with a 27-8 advantage going into the second quarter.

Selangan continued to pile on the misery for SOON as they defended well to prevent their opponents from cutting inside for points. SOON had to settle for outside shots but failed on most occasions allowing Selangan to extend their lead to 53-20 at halftime. Read More…
