Leaders Patriots slay the Dragons

THE Philippine Patriots got back to winning ways after edging the KL Dragons 76-70 in their Asean Basketball League (ABL) match at the Ynares Sports Arena in Manila yesterday.
Following a six-game winning run, the shorthanded Patriots suffered a humbling 95-70 setback to the Barracudas last Sunday at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex for just their second loss in the inaugural league.
The Patriots welcomed back Nonoy Baclao, who led Ateneo to the Philippine Collegiate Champions League crown over Far Eastern University last weekend, and Elmer Espiritu, who suffered a broken cheek bone two weeks ago but played with a face guard on.
It was a closely contested affair right from the start as both teams battled neck and neck exchanging baskets throughout the opening period.
The Dragons came out with good defence and their Filipino import, Rudy Lingganay, hit a buzzer beating two-pointer to tie the scores at 21 apiece at the end of the first period.
The Dragons led for most of the second quarter as both teams continued exchanging baskets throughout the period but the Patriots managed to edge ahead with a 38-37 advantage at halftime.
The league leaders were trying to shake off their opponents, but failed to do so resulting in a see-saw battle. Read More…
