A STRONG defensive performance helped Easyway Delima banish memories of defeat a week ago by beating HHY 70-62 in the championship match of the Under-18 category of the Basketball Youth Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) court in Batu Bersurat last night.
Easyway Delima put up an all-round offensive performance with Jamri Ramlee leading the pack with 15 points and Lee Hung Yi pouring in 11 points to clinch the title.
On the other hand, Foo Gwen Tong topscored for HHY with 16 points and Loo Zhi Hung chipped in 12 points to a losing cause.
Both teams were neck and neck right from the start as they exchanged baskets throughout the opening period. Neither team could stick out in front and they were tied at 12 apiece heading into the second quarter.
Easyway Delima picked up their pace in the second period with a watertight defence, limiting their opponents at the offensive end.
HHY were making poor passes which were easily picked off by their opponents leading to fastbreak points.
In contrast, Easyway Delima were playing well in transition as they caught fire shooting from the field to open up a 24-18 advantage midway through the quarter.
HHY also had trouble getting back on defence and were facing a 30-39 deficit at halftime.
Easyway Delima were hustling for the loose balls and were dominating the boards. Read More…
