HE played, he won and then went down on bended knee.

Singapore Slingers forward/ centre Pathman Matialakan had a memorable day on Dec 17.

First the Slingers ended their three-game skid with a 69-66 victory over the Thailand Tigers in their Asean Basketball League (ABL) match at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Then it was time for a reality show. Pathman got down on one knee at centre court and proposed to his long time girlfiend, Li Ling, who happily accepted before he slipped on the ring and kissed her in front of a cheering crowd.

Not wanting the usual romantic dinner type proposal, Pathman had thought hard on how to make his proposal memorable.

It then occurred to him that since both Li and himself are professional athletes, there was no better way than to propose after a match.

"Because I am a professional basketball player with the Singapore Slingers and I wanted my family and friends to witness it, and not forgetting our fans.

"A dinner would be too predictable and not much of a surprise element," Pathman told the ABL website.

Li, who has lived in Singapore for over 10 years, is part of the Singapore national netball team and has known Pathman for a long time. Read More...
