D’ CAFÉ LEADS THE SERIES 1-0: Kiarong Cup 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
Kiarong, BSB. Game started last night with Turistas playing early of the first half with only two (2) players. According to the tournament’s rule, game may start or continue provided that, a team should have at least an in-bounder and a receiver. Abiding this rule the committees and players started the game. Before the middle of the half, Turistas finally got their complete line up but despite the lack of a player in the early start they managed to finish the half with the score tied at 37. Axel Mangga of Turistas lead his team in the first half gathering 26 pts. “I don’t want the team to go behind a big margin against them. I just want to give them the game that everybody was expecting. We reached this championship games and for sure we will finish this with us on top”, he expressed during the half time.
With the unexpected performance of Turistas, D’ Café was stunned. Though they are playing with the complete line up, they cannot simple take a huge lead. “We underestimate their incomplete line-up and for sure we will take it seriously in the next half”, Alex Barawed uttered, who only made 11 pts in the first half.
In the beginning of the second half, both teams wanted to establish a commanding lead. Nobody wanted to give up. With no alternate players, exhausted Turistas slowly went behind shot by shot as the D’ Café’s Rj Buenaventura started to pour three pointers and perimeter shots. Even the Chinese player Andrew Jong made a huge 3 point to add more excitement to the game. With the D’ Café’s commanding lead of 22 points before reaching the final 4 minutes of the last half, they still continue their line of defense. Turistas fought back in the last two minutes and though they managed to narrow down the lead they still came up 8 points short. Acknowledging their defeat they finished the game and promised to make the series to be even on Sunday.
D’ Café finished the game with the score 85-77. Rj Buenaventura poured 32pts to secure their first win. Alex Barawed with 22pts, Mike with 16 pts, Wyclef, Mahlon Campos and Aj helping with 8, 4, & 3 points respectively.
The possible conclusion of this 1st Kiarong Cup will be highlighted by a RAINBOW Shootout match and a Two ball competition before the 2nd game of the series begin (20 December 2009-6:30pm). This event will be considered as the Kiarong All Star Night.
