Aewon left it till late to complete a 79-76 comeback victory over Le Apple Bakery in Group C of the 2010 Sultan's Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association court in Batu Bersurat last night.

Cavan Kong caught fire late on to finish with 20 points, all coming in the second half, to pace Aewon.

Chin Soon Khiong contributed 19 points including knocking down five treys and Yong Kui Seng chipped in 16 points in the victory.

With the line-up made up of the players set to represent the country in the Veteran category of the 2010 Borneo Cup, which the Sultanate is hosting from Aug 13-15, Rosli Said notched a game-high of 24 points for Le Apple Bakery.

Soon Chin Long added 17 points and Lim Eng Ang poured in 12 points, from behind the arc, to a losing cause.

Le Apple Bakery had carried a 62-52 lead into the final period before Kong stole the show, with seven points, to help his team to a 15-point run and grab the lead at 65-62 with six minutes left.

Rosli then nailed a three-pointer to stop the rot. Le Apple Bakery would press their opponents hard as both teams battled neck and neck to try and stay ahead.

With the teams tied at 76 apiece with 30 seconds to go, Tan had a chance to grab the lead for Le Apple Bakery but missed two free throws.

However, in the next possession, Kong would split his free throws at the other end to regain the lead. Read More…
