Still being outmuscled by Filipinos

Sunday, August 22, 2010

ANOTHER match, another loss for the national basketball team.

The Brunei national team have fallen to 0-6 against quality Filipino teams in local competitions under Kevin Reece, the national basketball coach, since his arrival in late December.

They were so close to breaking that egg last night, having led the whole match just to choke late on for a 100-96 loss to MK Kids Salon in overtime in the third-place playoff of the 2010 Sultan's Cup.

"For instance, if the name (Geve) Leones is mentioned, local players tend to fear him. We will need to overcome that to beat them. That's our goal," said Reece.

"In addition, the Filipinos are hungry for a win in every game that they play and they would fight for it without giving up. Instead, the local players would just cave in after going so far. We just don't want it bad enough," he added. Read More...
